What would we do in life without them? Please meet V&E. They are my dear friends. V taught me to take the stairs whenever I can, she says if you make small changes and stick with them for 30 days they will eventually become a habit. V is a nutritionist and has a spiffy food blog with a twist. They have been together for 14 years which is reason enough for a session.
Super romantic E chose the location. This is where his parents were married here 45 years ago . . . I even had the pleasure of pouring through his parents vintage wedding album kept in immaculate condition. V&E were such troopers after this, I was wondering what would happen. Our perseverance paid off and we were rewarded with a very special unforgettable day together.

Singing in the rain…09.13.11

Even the rain contributed to the romantic mood, a beautiful intimate wedding day. A very calm spirit prevailed that whole afternoon and everyone was very relaxed and radiant. A fabulous location with a stunning bride and groom, and a group of lovely guests made the day. I saw such kindness and beauty that day that really touched me. Thank you so much V&C for a gorgeous afternoon.
And as Frankie would say
“Come on with the rain,
I have a smile on my face.
I’ll walk down the lane
With a happy refrain

is what this day was. Lovely couple, beautiful weather, fabulous location, intimate outdoor wedding with a bunch of fun guests, making sure the atmosphere was filled with fun and laughter. Today, I’m going to let the images do the talking…

Dat is wat deze dag was, prachtig paar, schitterend weer, fantastische locatie, intieme buitenbruiloft met een hoop leuke gasten, die ervoor zorgden dat de atmosfeer gevuld was met vrolijkheid en gelach. Vandaag laat ik de afbeeldingen het verhaal vertellen.

Recently, I’ve been dwelling on this a lot and have been experimenting with my packaging, because to most people a family shoot is a little gift to themselves and the whole family. It’s something that is decided on after much pondering and saving from the monthly budget I know. So, I wanted to give this hard earned gift that a family gives to themselves the credit it deserves.

Magical…10.26.10

It’s such a pleasure to shoot couple’s where they are so obviously madly in love like these two. Magical is what comes to my mind whenever I get a shoot like this. I’m a hopeless romantic and really enjoyed capturing the love and affection these two have for each other.

Het is altijd een genot om koppels te fotograferen als ze zo overduidelijk verliefd zijn, zoals deze twee. Magisch is wat bij mij opkomt wanneer ik een dergelijke sessie heb. Ik ben een hopeloze romanticus en heb werkelijk genoten van het vastleggen van de liefde en affectie die deze twee voor elkaar hebben.

A feast for the senses and the soul.08.28.10

If you are going to fall in love, try to make your relationship one that generates great spiritual creativity, one that is mutually enriching.’

This beautiful quote is one from Daisaku Ikeda, the president of a Soka Gakkai International lay Buddhist organisation. To me this wedding was the epitome of what President Ikeda talks about. They are both SGI Buddhists (as am I) and shooting this ceremony was a dream come true for me – both as a photographer and as someone who was born and brought up in Japan.

It gave me the opportunity to finally put to good use my knowledge of Japanese and the Japanese culture. The bride’s family had flown in all the way from Japan and it was such joy to watch the bride and her mother bickering over how tight the Kimono should be. I was so happy I that I could actually understand what was happening and could capture moments that would have otherwise been lost, had I not known what was going on. The bride and groom were so much in sync with each other that they had chosen clothes in matching tones. And they looked so gorgeous sitting next to each other during the ceremony of ‘San san Kudo’, this is the ceremony where the bride and groom drink three glasses of Sake thrice.

I felt my eyes well up as I saw the groom, whom I had watched grow up in front of me in the last ten years solemnly drink the sake next to his beautiful wife.

This wedding was special to me for so many reasons and the most significant reason was that this was one assignment that I felt I was combining my love for all that is Japanese with my love to photography.

Dit schitterende citaat van Daisaku Ikeda, de president van de Soka Gakkai International, een boeddhistische lekenorganisatie. Voor mij was deze bruiloft de essentie waar President Ikeda over praat. Ze zijn beiden SGI Boeddhisten (net zoals ik) en het was een droom die uitkwam voor mij om deze bruiloft te mogen fotograferen – zowel als fotograaf als iemand die geboren en getogen is in Japan.

Het gaf mij de kans om eindelijk mij kennis van het Japans en de Japanse cultuur nuttig te gebruiken. De familie van de bruid was helemaal uit Japan overgevlogen en het was een feest om de bruid en haar moeder te horen kibbelen over hoe straak  de kimono moest zitten. Ik was zo blij dat ik kon begrijpen wat er gebeurde en de momenten kon vastleggen die anders verloren gegaan zouden zijn, als ik niet begrepen had wat er aan de hand was. De bruid en bruidegom waren zo in harmonie met elkaar dat ze kleding in passende tinten hadden gekozen. En ze zagen er zo schitterend uit, zittend naast elkaar voor de ‘San san Kudo’ ceremonie. Dit is de ceremonie waarbij de bruid en de bruidegom drie keer drie glazen sake drinken.

Ik voelde mijn tranen branden toen ik de bruidegom, die ik voor mij op heb zien groeien in de afgelopen tien jaar, plechtig zijn sake zag drinken naast zijn prachtige vrouw.

Deze bruiloft was speciaal voor mij voor zovele redenen en de meest belangrijke reden was dat dit een van de opdrachten was waarbij ik mijn liefde voor alles wat Japans is kon combineren met mijn liefde voor fotografie.

The truth about fairy tale weddings…06.03.10

The, beautiful wedding, the gorgeous bride – every woman’s dream. I’ve always felt that these things are just the icing on the cake of a beautiful relationship and sometimes they are mistaken for being the cake!
Last month Tineke and I were fortunate to be the official photographers for a wedding with both the cake and the icing. The couple featured in the pictures below symbolised, to me, the epitome of a loving relationship, and their wedding was a reflection of this. They spared no effort to proclaim their love for each other. They entered the world of marital bliss drawn by a carriage and horses and horsemen in grand attire. Although the entire affair was grand, it somehow did not take away or overshadow the couple’s obvious love for one another. After the beautiful ceremony we sailed around Gouda in beautifully decorated boats and drank to the couple’s health. The reception too exuded love and warmth.
The couple were a delight to work with and treated us like part of the family on and before the wedding too. For me, true love is when there is enough to share with other people. That to me is a true fairy tale wedding.

De prachtige bruiloft, een wonderschone bruid – de droom van elke vrouw. Ik heb altijd geloofd dat deze dingen alleen de krenten in de pap van een fantastische relatie zijn maar soms worden verward met de pap zelf!
Vorige maand waren Tineke en ik zo gelukkig dat we de officiële fotografen waren van een bruiloft met zowel de krenten als de pap. Het koppel dat staat afgebeeld in de foto’s hieronder stonden, wat mij betreft, symbool voor de ultieme liefdesrelatie, en hun bruiloft was een reflectie hiervan. Ze spaarden kosten nog moeite om hun liefte voor elkaar te uiten. Ze betraden de wereld van een gelukzalige trouwerij getrokken door koetsen en paarden en volledig uitgedoste koetsiers. Hoewel de hele gebeurtenis groots was, overschaduwde het op de een of andere manier toch niet de overduidelijke liefde van het bruiloftskoppel voor elkaar. Na een schitterende ceremonie voeren we door Gouda in prachtig versierde boten en toosten op het geluk van het koppel. De receptie straalde ook liefde en warmte uit. Het koppel van fantastisch om mee te werken en ze behandelden ons als deel van hun familie tijdens de bruiloft en ook daarvoor. Voor mij bestaat echte liefde uit het hebben van genoeg om te delen met anderen. Dat is voor mij een echte sprookjesbruiloft.

Love is in the air…05.03.10

Natalie and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening with the winners of the Helping Haiti initiative! We spent the evening walking through the couple’s favourite streets of Holland whilst listening to anecdotes of their lives together.
We had so many favourites to choose from!
Thank you once again for helping us help the victims of Haiti’s earthquake.

Natalie en ik hebben een hele leuke avond gehad met de winnaars van het Helping Haiti initiatief. We hebben de avond doorgebracht door met het koppel door hun favoriete straten van Holland te lopen, terwijl we luisterden naar de anekdotes van hun leven samen. We hadden zoveel favorieten om tussen te kiezen.! Nogmaals hartelijk bedankt dat jullie ons hebben geholpen om de slachtoffers van Haiti’s aardbeving te helpen.
