Vinita

During my own formative years my hometown was in Okinawa and consequently the Japanese language and culture form a large part of my cultural base.

My sense of spirituality originates through my mother’s faith in Soka Gakkai International, a lay Buddhist Organisation. The works of photography by the president of this organisation, Daisaku Ikeda, was an inspiration to my eyes, revealing within me the need to find a way to capture the moment, a moment suspended in time, a perspective to behold frozen for further contemplation.

Having finished a course on photography in my family’s homeland,  India, I became an assistant to Girish Mistry based in Bombay. It is during this period of my life that I met and fell in love with a Dutchman and relocated to the city of Gouda in The Netherlands further broadening my cultural base. I then expanded my skills as a photographer by making the switch from film to digital photography.  I always feel that my admiration of my father’s dedication to documenting family events through the camera was an important tradition which, as I deeply love, I continue for myself and others.  My love of travel and willingness to cross cultures is in part a result of the exposure to different places and events of my life and also in part due to my father’s subscription to “National Geographic” magazine.  When I was a young girl those images opened a doorway to the world’s possibilities through the  many different visual representations that I was then able to enjoy and now enjoy giving back. I feel the pleasure of viewing such images provides the impulse to feel at home in a cross cultural heritage.

Please feel free to send me  a note  if you would like to know more, I would love to hear from you.
